NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

Welcome to Hollowell & Teeton, one of the safest Parishes in Northamptonshire.  As a resident we hope you will help us to maintain this by supporting your Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

WHAT IS NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH?

Neighbourhood Watch is a partnership where people come together voluntarily to make their communities safer. It involves the Police, local authorities, other voluntary organisations and above all, individuals and families who want to make their neighbourhoods better places to live. It aims to help people protect themselves and their properties and to reduce the fear of crime, by means of improved home security, greater vigilance, accurate reporting of suspicious incidents to the police and by fostering a community spirit.

The Police alone cannot deal with the problems and issues arising from crime and anti-social behaviour; they need the help of the whole community. Neighbourhood Watch provides a way for local people to play an important part in addressing this balance and making their communities safer.

Neighbourhood Watch covers many aspects of criminal behaviour and works to:

  • Prevent crime by improving security, increasing vigilance, creating and maintaining a caring community and reducing opportunities for crime by increasing crime prevention awareness.

  • Assist the police in detecting crime by promoting effective communication and the prompt reporting of suspicious and criminal activity.

  • Reduce undue fear of crime by providing accurate information about risks and by promoting a sense of security and community spirit, particularly amongst the more vulnerable members of the community.

  • Improve police/community liaison by providing effective communications through Neighbourhood Watch messaging systems which warn senior coordinators of local crime trends which they can disseminate to their scheme members, and by members informing the police of incidents when they occur.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Hollowell & Teeton Neighbourhood Watch covers the whole Parish, including Highfield Park. The Scheme is run by its members, led by an elected Co-ordinator and supported by the Parish Council.  It is a community based initiative which means that whilst the police actively support the scheme, the success of it depends on the participation of the residents of the Parish.

Statistically we live in a low crime area but ‘Complacency is the Enemy of Safety’ and maintaining security of our homes, vehicles and property is essential if that low crime rate is to be maintained.

HOW CAN I JOIN?

Members are encouraged to share their contact details, particularly e mail addresses, with the Co-ordinator so that alerts of any suspicious activity or incidents can be quickly disseminated.

You can register on the Hollowell & Teeton NHW web page by clicking on the ‘Apply to join scheme’ button, and adding your email & contact details.

WHAT DO I DO IF I NOTICE ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS?

The Incident Report Card (see link above) is a useful aide for capturing information on any suspicious activity.

There is always a need for vigilance in maintaining the effectiveness of Neighbourhood Watch in our Parish and the immediate reporting to the Police of any suspicious activity using the 101 telephone number. When reporting incidents please state that you are a member of Hollowell & Teeton NHW and are reporting suspicious activity which is occurring at this time. If able, make a note of the incident report number (request number if not given) and ask for update / feedback.

After you have completed the reporting to the Police, please consider contacting neighbours / NHW Group members to raise awareness of the incident, including the quoting of the Police Incident Report Number.  If other group members then become aware of similar activity they can also report this immediately to the Police quoting the Incident Reference Number.  This assists the Police in determining appropriate response and where the activity is located.

NB: In an emergency always ring 999

YOUR LOCAL CO-ORDINATOR

As a co-ordinator their role is to act as the local contact point for Neighbourhood Watch matters and to encourage villagers to pass on their contact details (particularly email addresses) so that the prevention of crime can be enacted as soon as is practicably possible.

Please feel free to contact the Co-ordinator if you have any concerns. The Hollowell & Teeton NHW Co-ordinator is:
